Mike Dillon is an American percussionist, vibraphonist, bandleader, vocalist, and songwriter known for his highly adventurous and genre-defying style that blends jazz, funk, rock, and avant-garde influences. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Dillon has built a prolific career performing and recording for more than three decades, both as a solo artist and with ensembles such as Critters Buggin, Garage A Trois, and The Dead Kenny G’s. He has collaborated with a wide range of notable musicians, including Les Claypool, Ani DiFranco, Rickie Lee Jones, Galactic, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and Marco Benevento, and has led projects that showcase his creative use of vibraphone, percussion, and compositional experimentation. Dillon’s work is celebrated for its improvisational energy and boundary-pushing approach, earning him a dedicated following on the underground and festival circuits. Based out of Kansas City and New Orleans, he continues to tour extensively, release new recordings, and influence a new generation of adventurous musicians.
