This performance is made possible by the U.S. Embassy of Spain, Experimental Sound Studio, and Constellation's Frequency Series.

Melmann experiments with technology, creating linear and nonlinear narratives and working across different media. Described as “…a tour de force…” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and “finds the depth in every note" (composer Phillipe Leroux), SHI-AN COSTELLO has a repertoire that spans the aesthetic sensibilities of four centuries, from J.S. Bach to John Cage, from Chopin to Brian Ferneyhough, and to include the most current of musical styles. In his youth, Shi-An was a piano and theory student under Vladimir Leyetchkiss, one of the last pupils of the legendary Heinrich Neuhaus, and a trombone student under Richard Schmitt, former principal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. shiancostello.com
