Formed in Manchester in 1976, Buzzcocks’ influence on punk and independent music cannot be overstated. With classics Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve) and What Do I Get?, Spiral Scratch sparked a revolution and paved the way for generations of DIY musicians and independent labels. Defining the sound, the spirit and the very essence of late 70s British punk, Buzzcocks proceeded on a journey that saw Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, R.E.M. Green Day, Kurt Cobain and many others namecheck themselves as fans.

After losing the founding frontman Pete Shelley in 2018, co-founder Steve Diggle vowed to keep the Buzzcocks flame alive through writing, recording and touring with the same passion and purpose that had always defined the group. Nearly five decades on, new album Attitude Adjustment is a celebration of resilience, creativity and pure rock ’n’ roll energy and another unique chapter in one of British music’s most enduring stories.

Combining raw punk energy with melodic smarts and lyrical bite, every note on Attitude Adjustment is delivered with Buzzcocks trademark heart, humour, spirit and invention. Written in early 2025 during a short break from a full touring schedule, and released almost 49 years to the day since their debut EP Spiral Scratch came out, from the punchy opener Queen Of The Scene this new album shows Buzzcocks remain an essential and evolving musical force.

Modern English emerged from Colchester, Essex in the late 1970s and has remained one of the most distinctive names to come out of the UK post-punk movement. Led by vocalist Robbie Grey and bassist Mick Conroy, the band continues to reach new audiences as younger generations discover their catalog and contemporary artists cite Modern English as an influence. Nearly five decades into their career, the band remains active on the road, with recent touring across the U.S., UK, and Europe and a catalog that continues to resonate far beyond the era in which it was created.

Released in 2024, 1 2 3 4 marked Modern English’s first album of new material in eight years. Produced by Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Nine Inch Nails), mixed by Cenzo Townsend, and mastered at Abbey Road, the album reconnects with the spirit of the band’s early post-punk work while pushing that sound forward. From the punk bite of “Long in the Tooth” and “Plastic” to the melodic pull of “Not Fake” and “Crazy Lovers,” 1 2 3 4 captures a band still driven by the chemistry and instinct that defined them from the beginning.

Modern English first emerged during the UK’s late-’70s post-punk movement and became one of the earliest acts signed to the influential 4AD label. Their 1981 debut, Mesh & Lace, became a touchstone of the era, while 1982’s After the Snow paired the band’s atmospheric sound with sharper melodic instincts. The album produced “I Melt With You,” which became a U.S. rock-radio Top 10 hit, crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, and has remained one of the band’s defining songs. That history remains very much alive onstage.

In summer 2026, Modern English joined Howard Jones, Wang Chung and The English Beat for the Things Can Only Get Better Tour across North America. This November, the band returns for a run of dates with Buzzcocks, including shows in San Francisco, Santa Ana, Las Vegas, Tucson and Atlanta. Modern English will also perform at Darker Waves on November 14 at Huntington Beach City Beach in California, alongside a lineup that includes The Smashing Pumpkins, Simple Minds, The Psychedelic Furs, Adam Ant, Gary Numan and Buzzcocks.

Modern English is also contributing a cover of Malaria!’s “Kaltes Klares Wasser (Cold Clear Water)” to Wir Schweigen Nicht / We Will Not Be Silent – A White Rose Benefit, a compilation benefiting the White Rose Foundation. For Grey, the song carries a personal connection to Malaria! singer Bettina Köster.
